Seaman Homecoming Ceremony Includes Honor For Murdered Teen

TOPEKA, Kan. (WIBW) - A local homecoming celebration also celebrated a life cut short.

The pregame king and queen ceremony at Seaman High School on Friday night began with a moment of silence for Brenna Morgart. The 18-year old was murdered just after graduation in May while out for a jog.

Morgart was Seaman's Homecoming queen last year. Traditionally, the prior queen crowns her successor. So Brenna's sister, Arianna, stood in for her at the event.

The man charged in Morgart's death, Dustin Leftwich, has a motions hearing continuing November 21st. A date for a preliminary hearing - the proceeding to determine whether there is enough evidence to bind him over for trial - won't be set until the motions hearing is complete.
