TOPEKA, Kan. (WIBW) - A young Topekan has earned the Distinguished Service Award from the Boy Scouts' Order of the Arrow.
20-year-old Collin Huerter spoke about the honor Wednesday to the Jayhawk Area Boy Scout Council.
Huerter is an Eagle Scout from Troop 9 in Topeka. He is the second Topekan to receive the national award from the Order of the Arrow, which is the Boy Scouts' national honor society.
Huerter said the honor means a lot. He says, as the youngest of three boys, he grew up around scouting events and the group's values are heavily engrained in his life.
Fewer than a thousand Scouts have received the award.
