SCOTT CITY, Kan. (AP) _ Scott City has been developing plans for community-funded walking and biking trail, thanks in part to donations made to honor a local family killed in a plane crash.
The Garden City Telegram reports that (http://bit.ly/K1V6Im ) that the Scott City Trail would cost about $363,000 and include a 1.4-mile trail at a city park and nearly 4 miles more of designated walking and biking areas. The project is funded through the Scott Community Foundation, which has raised about $70,000.
SCF Executive Director Ryan Roberts says most of that money came from donations after the deaths of the Spencer family, who were killed in a plane crash northeast of Topeka last April.
The foundation also received a $22,000 from the Kansas Health foundation, which went toward paying for the project design.
