TOPEKA, Kan. (WIBW) - One child suffered minor injuries when the school bus in which he was riding collided with a construction truck.
The accident happened around 2:30 pm Friday. Topeka Police say a school bus traveling north on SW Fillmore St. missed a stop sign at 5th St. and hit a gravel truck. The bus drivers attention may have been distracted by someone on the bus.
Seven children were on the bus at the time. The injured child was picked up by his grandmother. Parents of the other children also were allowed to pick them up at the scene or allow them to be boarded onto another bus to continue transportation.
Topeka Public Schools Communications Director Ron Harbaugh came to the accident scene to check on the students.
