TOPEKA, Kan. (WIBW) -- Families who registered with the United Way's Christmas Bureau and received letters from the Salvation Army will be able to pick up toys for their kids and food their families this Thursday.
“Every little child should be able to anticipate the gift of a toy at Christmas and through the generosity of donors in our community through our Angel Tree program they will," said Major Lee Ann Burkett, corps officer of The Salvation Army.
The organization said their distribution day will be Thursday, December 19 from 9:00 a.m. to 4:00 p.m.
Parents will be able to shop for toys received through the Angel Tree programs at the West Ridge Mall's Sears Store, two Wal-Mart locations, and through the generosity of JC Penney employees.
“Working with the Toys for Tots program is historical with The Salvation Army and we are appreciative to our local unit for all their support,” added Major Burkett.
Community volunteers are still needed to help with the sorting of toys and setting up food boxes on Wednesday from 10:00 a.m. until 3:00 p.m. Volunteers are also needed on Distribution Day for wither of two shifts, from 8:00 a.m. until noon or from noon until 4:00 p.m.
