Riley County Girl Wins Good Deed Contests

MANHATTAN, Kan. (WIBW) -- A Riley County child is going out of her way to spread some holiday cheer to our troops overseas and she was recognized Wednesday for her efforts.

Jessi Brummett, 10, a student at Riley County Grade School, was named the winner of a good deed contest sponsored by Dr. Roger Stevens with Dentistry by Design in Manhattan.

Jessi won an iPad for her work in the kitchen. She’s been baking cookies with her aunt and sending them to deployed soldiers who cannot be with their families this holiday season.

With each batch she sends, Jessi also includes a hand-written letter, thanking the troops for their service to our country and for fighting for our freedom.

She’s been packing and sending the cookies in Pringles cans because they don’t get crushed and are easier to send that way. She’s put up flyers around school so she can collect more cans to help send more cookies.

Dr. Stevens, a veteran, thanked Jessi for her thoughtfulness.
