TOPEKA, KS – Thursday, May 5th Quest Credit Union and Communities in Schools will teach Reality U, a hands on financial literacy program, to the entrepreneurial classes at Topeka High School. The day will be divided into two sessions beginning at 11:30 a.m. and concluding at 3:00 that afternoon.

“We volunteered for Reality U in 2010 and were immediately hooked,” said Valerie Taylor, VP, Business Development, Quest Credit Union and CIS Board Member. “From our perspective as a financial institution, this is an outstanding program for teaching youth about the value of money, as well as their grades and the progress they make here in school.”

At Reality U students are provided an occupation based on their educational plans after high school, their GPA and their desired career field. Then, they are faced with making decisions as though they are a 26-year-old, in a scenario that includes marital status, number of children and monthly income. Students will visit a variety of booths to “purchase” housing, transportation, child care, insurance, groceries and more. And, they will learn about the cost of unexpected things, such as accidents or unexpected visitors.

Staff and volunteers from both Quest Credit Union and Communities in Schools, Kansas, will be on hand to answer questions. For more information about the organizations and their partnership, or for a detailed schedule of Reality U, contact Valerie Taylor at Quest Credit Union at 785-233-5556 or valeriet@quest-cu.org.
