ROSSVILLE, Kan. (WIBW) - Area youth picked up ball skills from the big kids Thursday.

The Rossville Rattlers baseball team hosted a youth baseball camp at their home field. About a hundred kids ages five to 14, mainly from the Rossville, Saint Marys and Silver Lake areas, came out to get pointers on hitting, catching and fielding.

Rattlers head coach Brett Cowdin has worked at various levels and says this age is the most fun. He says they're able to teach fundamentals and are able to the kids improve before their eyes.

The Rattlers team is made up of mostly local teens now playing college baseball. Many of them volunteered their time for Thursday's camp. In their first season, Cowdin says they're receiving a lot of support from the community, with good crowds and local residents manning the concessions stand.

The Rattlers next game is 7 pm Friday, June 15, in Rossville.
