TOPEKA, Kan. (WIBW) - The Shawnee County Commission voted unanimously Thursday to close Crestview Pool.
A memo released Wednesday shed new details on why Shawnee County Parks and Rec officials decided the swimming pool should be closed.
The report, from Parks Director Terry Bertels to Parks and Recreation Director John Knight, shows, among other issues, the pool has substantial leaks. Water usage went from 429,000 gallons in July 2009 to 2.7 million gallons in July 2011 and nearly doubling to 5 million gallons last July.
The memo said repairs could cost up to $837,000. Renovating the pool bath house to make it ADA compliant would add another $325,000 to the price. Replacing the pool with another of similar size would cost $2.75 to $3.15 million.
Crestview Pool was built in 1958.
