(KAKE)-- A back to school celebration may be the reason why classes were canceled Wednesday at St. Joseph Catholic School in McPherson.
Administrators confirmed the reason classes were called off was too many students and teachers were ill. The number of illnesses was significant enough to report to the McPherson County Health Department. The health department director said the case is being investigated as a food borne illness.
The illness could be associated with a back to school barbeque held on Sunday, August 11th. The barbeque was a combination of catered food and pot luck items. Symptoms have lasted 12 to 18 hours and include nausea and diarrhea.
The health department will send out a survey to determine what exactly caused the illness. They encourage all affected families to return the surveys as soon as possible.
