RILEY COUNTY, Kan. (WIBW) -- According to Riley County police, autopsy results show that a Fort Riley soldier's death at his home off-post in Ogden was the result of an accidental overdose on medications he was taking after surgery.

On Friday, September 28, 2012 at 6:55 AM, officers were dispatched to a house on 15th Street in Ogden for a report of a man not breathing.

Officials say it was quickly apparent to first responders that Sergeant Duriel Powell, 33, was deceased. He was found by a relative who called authorities for help.

Lieutenant Josh Kyle, a spokesman for the Riley County Police Department, says Powell had surgery before his death and he unintentionally overdosed on pills he was taking during his recovery.

Powell was assigned to Headquarters and Headquarters Battery, 1st Battalion, 5th Field Artillery Regiment, 1st Armored Brigade Combat Team, 1st Infantry Division. He was a field artillery Firefinder radar operator, according to 1st Infantry Division Public Affairs staff.
