TOPEKA, Kan. (WIBW) - Authorities Tuesday called off their search for a suspect from the NE Kansas Most Wanted List who was reported near Topeka Monday night.

Shawnee County Dispatch told 13 News that authorities were contacted by an off-duty officer working security at the I-70 Auto Auction around 8:30 p.m. Monday. The auto auction facility is located just west of I-70 and Valencia road, west of Topeka.

The off-duty officer was alerted to the suspect's presence after someone recognized the man from the NE Kansas Most Wanted List. The officer tried to make contact with the man and was given a false name. When he asked further questions, the suspect fled the scene.

Authorities released a limited description of the suspect, saying he's a black male wearing dark clothing. He was last seen with no shirt on.

It's unknown why the man was at the auto auction, or if he is armed. A KHP helicopter and K-9 unit were called out to aide in the search.
