TOPEKA, Kan. (WIBW) - The national president of Parents as Teachers was in the Capital City Thursday.
Scott Hippert visited the PAT facility at Pine Ridge, 1100 SE Highland. The program provides early learning opportunities for parents and children from birth until 3 years old. The Pine Ridge facility provides weekly playgroups, lessons on parenting skills and assistance for parents in finding employment.
Hippert was impressed at how the Pine Ridge program runs as a partnership between Topeka Public Schools and several local agencies. Hippert says the partnerships not only provide more funding options and resources for PAT programs, it also helps PAT reach more families through the connections the organizations have.
PAT at Pine Ridge started less than two years ago. Hippert says its partnership approach could be a model for PAT programs around the country.
