The Topeka Fire Department responded to a reported structure fire at 1105 SW 10th St. Topeka, Kansas Shortly after 01:30 Monday, May 28, 2012. The first on scene fire officials reported Heavy fire showing from the back of the structure. Fire crews kept the fire contained to the structure of fire origin, with minor heat damage to the adjacent structure to the east. The structure was found to be vacant at the time of the fire.
A Topeka Fire Department Investigation’s Unit responded to this incident to determine the origin (where the fire started) and the cause for the fire. The following is a brief summary;
Cause (of this fire) is being classified as Incendiary, intentionally set.
Origin of the fire was determined within southeast corner of the first floor.
Estimated dollar loss - $14,500 (fourteen thousand five hundred dollars); $10,000 was estimated structural damages/loss, $1,000 was estimated content damages/loss and the adjacent building sustained approximately $3,500 dollars in damage.
