The following is from the office of Gov. Sam Brownback:

Kansas Governor Sam Brownback Friday announced the appointment of Overland Park attorney Timothy McCarthy to the 10th Judicial District of the State of Kansas. Gurney will take the seat of retiring Judge John P. Bennett.

“Tim’s experience as civil litigation attorney and judge pro tem will serve Kansans of the 10th Judicial District well,” Governor Brownback said.

McCarthy is currently a partner at Gilliland & Hayes, PC where he has worked since 2006. He also serves as a judge pro tem for the 10th Judicial District Court and Edwardsville Municipal Court.

He was one of three names submitted to the Governor by the 10th Judicial District Nominating Commission.

The state’s 105 counties are organized into 31 Judicial Districts. The district courts serve as the trial courts for the state, overseeing all civil and criminal cases. The 10th District covers the entirety of Johnson County.
