TOPEKA, Kan. (WIBW) -- An accident on the Kansas Turnpike Monday morning has one person in the hospital.
It happened about 4:20 a.m. near mile post 181. Topeka Police Dispatch say that's about four miles east of the south Turnpike entrance from Topeka toward Lawrence.
First crews on the scene reported an RV, pulling a VW van, overturned in a ditch. Authorities say the RV left the roadway just before reaching a bridge, went down an embankment, and crossed a creek. At that point, authorities say the driver was ejected from the vehicle. He was conscious when crews arrived on the scene.
Authorities say the man is from Kansas City, Missouri. He was taken to a local hospital in serious condition.
Kansas Turnpike Authority officials say the right lane in the area will be closed for a tow truck to pull out the RV and van.
