TOPEKA, Kan. (WIBW) -- Law enforcement officials are investigating a southwest Topeka death as a homicide.
The apartment manager at the Candlelight Arms Apartments at 617 S.W. Taylor called police to check on the welfare of a man, he reportedly had not seen in a while.
After arriving on the scene, after 12 p.m. Wednesday, police found 64-year-old James Trice of Topeka stabbed to death.
It is not clear how many stab wounds Trice suffered or how long he had been stabbed for.
Police obtained a search warrant to further investigate. Police also spoke with neighbors on Wednesday night.
13 News is told Shawnee County District Attorney Chad Taylor and the coroner were called to the scene.
Later in the afternoon, people who appeared to know Trice stood across the street from the Candlelight Arms Apartments.
Crime scene investigators were still at the scene early Wednesday evening.
