Officials: Resident Of Motel Died Before Fire Started

TOPEKA, Kan. (WIBW) -- Authorities say a man found dead in a fire at Traveler's Inn Wednesday evening died of natural causes before the fire started.

The Shawnee County Coroner's Office report, via the Topeka Fire Department, identified the man as Daryl R. True, 57. Family members told officials that True was a permanent resident of the Traveler's Inn, 3846 SW Topeka Blvd.

The Topeka Fire Department has listed the cause of the fire as undetermined, but said in a release Friday morning "unattended or mishandled smoking material could not be eliminated as a cause of this fire."

True's death is listed as natural, having occurred before the fire started.
