Officer Stops Vehicle Theft in Progress

TOPEKA, Kan. (WIBW)-- At 7:00 Monday morning in the 1300 block of Jackson, a Dodge Durango was stolen from the driveway as the owner had it warming up with the keys inside of in the car.

An officer was driving in the 1200 block of Van Buren on routine patrol and observed a grey car in a driveway that appeared to be broken into. He then saw a green Dodge Durango leaving the area with the headlights off.

The officer stopped the Durango at Morris and Central and at the same time the owner of the Dodge Durango reported her car stolen.

The two incidents are believed to be connected at this time.

Three people were taken into custody and are currently being interviewed at the LEC.

At the time of the arrest a small black dog, possibly a spaniel, crossed the street. The dog had no license and no collar.

Officers were able to secure the dog. The dog was transported to the LEC by officers and is currently at the Animal Control Office waiting to be claimed.
