Officer Injured During Fight At Topeka High

A police officer was injured when fight broke out between four people at Topeka High School Friday.

TOPEKA, Kan. (WIBW)-- A police officer was injured when fight broke out between four people at Topeka High School Friday.

Surveillance cameras recorded the incident, which started in a main hall of the school, according to USD 501 School Police Chief Ron Brown.

A former student entered the building's main hall and a fight ensued between that individual and three current students. School police officers and staffers intervened in an effort to break-up the situation.

Topeka High Officer Mike Homan was injured during the altercation when he fell and hit his head on a concrete floor. Homan was attempting to break up the fight when he was thrown and lost his balance, Brown told 13 News.

Homan was taken to an area hospital with a concussion. He has served as an officer for 35 years.

The four people involved in the fight were charged with disorderly conduct. The non-student involved in the fight was also charged with criminal trespass.

Four Topeka Police Officers were called to assist Topeka High staff when the situation broke-out Friday.
