TOPEKA, Kan. (WIBW) - A busy stretch of Topeka street re-opened Thursday afternoon, a week ahead of schedule.
The barricades came down on North Topeka Boulevard, from the North end of the Kansas River bridge to Lyman Road. Brand-new concrete was poured between Paramore and Gordon streets and the entire stretch was widened to five lanes.
Business owners in the area say the closures hurt their sales. They were especially concerned in late October, when a new section was torn out and repoured due to cracked in the concrete, however city officials offered assurance the project still would finish on time.
The project was funded through a special city sales tax for street projects.
