Newborn Taken Into Protective Custody In Riley County

RILEY COUNTY, Kan. (WIBW) -- Riley County police say a newborn baby was taken into custody by authorities after testing positive for drugs.

Because of the nature of the case, very few details are being released.

Captain Kurt Moldrup, an administrator with the Riley County Police Department, says the infant was delivered on June 22, 2012 at Mercy Regional Health Center in Manhattan. The newborn’s mother, a 20-year-old Riley resident, tested positive for methamphetamine as did her child, Captain Moldrup said.

The infant was taken into protective custody and the Riley County Police Department has filed an Aggravated Child Endangerment report on the baby’s mother.

Moldrup says the report has been sent to Riley County court to request an arrest warrant for the mother of the newborn.
