TOPEKA, Kan. (WIBW) - New details Wednesday on the second incident in two weeks that a Topeka Police officer was involved in a shooting.
Police have identified the suspect shot by Topeka Police over the weekend as 26-year-old Juan A. Lucio of Topeka, but authorities say the shooting victim Lucio did not act alone.
Janelle Lynn Lomeli, 27, has been charged with aggravated robbery and attempted aggravated robbery in the incident.
A 13 News check of court records indicates Lucio is no stranger to law enforcement. He served time on drug charges in a May, 2009, court case and has other offenses going back to 2003.
Topeka Police say Lucio and Lomeli stole a car after a home invasion at 4th and Lafayette Sunday night.
The Sunday shooting occurred when officers say Lucio ran from the stolen vehicle and turned on the officer, who fired his weapon. Lucio remains hospitalized in Topeka. The officer has not been identified.
Topeka Police Chief Ron Miller called in the Shawnee County Sheriff to investigate the shooting. That investigation continues.
