MANHATTAN, Kan. (WIBW) -- A new hotel is now open for business in the Little Apple, part of Manhattan’s massive downtown redevelopment efforts.

A ribbon cutting ceremony was held Friday afternoon at the Candlewood Suites in the Blue Earth Plaza off of Fort Riley Boulevard.

The 84-room hotel is Manhattan’s first extended stay hotel and was completed eight months ahead of schedule.

Along with the Flint Hills Discovery Center and the new Hilton Garden Inn and Conference Center, the Candlewood Suites is one of the last pieces of the south end revitalization, meant to give the local economy a boost, officials said.

The hotel provides convenient access to Kansas State University; the U.S. Army’s 100,000-acre Fort Riley, home of the 1st Infantry Division; and the Manhattan Town Center mall.

Openings in Alabama and Manhattan helped the Candlewood Suites brand surpass 300th hotel milestone.
