TOPEKA, Kan. (AP) -- Kansas is getting nearly $640,000 in federal funds for a technical training program for inmates at the Topeka Correctional Facility.
The Topeka Capital-Journal reports the Justice Department grant was awarded to the Kansas Department of Commerce.
The Kansas agency says the grant will fund Certified Production Training courses at Washburn Institute of Technology. The department says the classes work to prepare inmates for jobs when they're released from prison.
The Commerce Department says it's working with the state Department of Corrections and Washburn University in administering the grant.
