TOPEKA, Kan. (WIBW)__A brand new Topeka City Council Member was introduced to residents Tuesday night. After a vote by Council Members and Mayor Larry Wolgast, Nathan Schmidt will now fill the vacant District 8 seat left open after former councilman Andrew Gray stepped down citing health problems.
Schmidt, a former Washburn University graduate and 2012 member of the city's Redistricting Commission says he is ready to make District 8 proud.
Saying, "They are going to get somebody that's open to their ideas and that will listen to anything they have to say. I'm easy to work with. We are going to have disagreements and we all know that, but that is not a bad thing. That's a catalyst to innovation, change and progress.
Councilman Nathan Schmidt received seven of nine total votes. Defeating candidates, Charles Dean Wilson and Nathan Schmidt.
