NE Kan. Town Dreams Of Baseball Museum To Tinker

MUSCOTAH, Kan. (AP) _ A northeast Kansas man is hoping to convert an old water tower into a piece of baseball memorabilia aimed at honoring a hall of famer.

Jeff Hanson is transforming a 20-foot metal globe in Muscotah into a baseball that will become the hook for luring visitors to the Joe Tinker Baseball Museum. Tinker played for the Chicago Cubs and was named to the National Baseball Hall of Fame in 1946.

The Kansas City Star reports (http://bit.ly/Ns94Ww ) that Hanson got the idea from representatives of the Kansas Sampler Foundation, which promotes rural communities across Kansas. The idea is to honor Tinker and draw tourists to the town of 200 residents.

Hanson hopes to have the project done in time for the 2015 Joe Tinker Day in Muscotah.
