TOPEKA, Kan. (WIBW) - A Topeka man charged with killing his mother and possessing pornography will now be evaluated to see if he is mentally competent.
District Judge Evelyn Wilson ordered the examination for 37-year old Jason Hachmeister during a brief hearing Tuesday at his attorney's request. He had been set for a preliminary hearing Tuesday on 113 counts of possessing child porn.
Hachmeister also is charged with premeditated first degree murder in the death of his mother, Sheila. She was found dead in their home in September.
A criminal assignment docket is set for May 31st in the pornography case. A preliminary hearing in the murder case is set for June 8.
