Motorcyclist Injured In Collision With Deer
MANHATTAN, Kan. (WIBW) -- Riley County police say a Manhattan man is recovering from a number of injuries after striking a deer on his motorcycle.
The accident happened in the 9700 block of Anderson Avenue near Prairie County Lane on July 2, 2012 at 3 AM, according to police.
Officials say 43-year-old Jerry Koontz, from Manhattan, was riding his 2012 Harley Davidson southeast on Anderson when he struck a deer and ended up hitting a bridge sign.
Koontz's friend was following him on a different motorcycle and said that several deer came out of the northeast ditch at the time of the accident and Koontz hit one.
Police reports indicate that Koontz was wearing eye protection but there are no indications he was wearing a helmet.
According to officials, he suffered significant injuries to his left side, including broken bones. He also stated he had neck and shoulder pain.
He was taken to the hospital for treatment.
