TOPEKA, Kan. (WIBW) -- Authorities say a man was taken by Life Star Helicopter to a local hospital after hitting a cow with his motorcycle.

The Shawnee County Sheriff's Office says deputies were called to the accident in the 7900 block of SW 61st St. at about 6:00 a.m. Wednesday.

They believe the motorcyclist, 51-year-old Joey Lowe, hit a cow in the road while traveling west on SW 61st Street. Authorities say he was wearing his helmet. He remains in the ICU with life-threatening injuries.

Members of the Auburn Fire Department, Mission Fire Department, AMR and Shawnee County Sheriff's Deputies responded to the scene. The name of the motorcyclist was being withheld pending notification of family members.
