TOPEKA -- No one was hurt after a man on a Moped swerved on the road to avoid an accident Friday evening.

Police came to the scene at Sardou and River road about 6:30 Friday. They say a car driver was making a U-turn onto the bridge there, when the Moped rider crested over the horizon of the bridge.

The Moped driver swerved to avoid hitting the car, and his bike tipped over. The rider/ driver was not wearing a helmet, and was reported bleeding from the head.. but he refused on the scene medical treatment.

Earlier in the day, a Texas couple riding their motorcycle on I-470 through the edge of Topeka suffered minor injuries when their westbound cycle slammed into the median barrier wall near the South Topeka Boulevard exit.

Brent and Tamie Schmidt tried to change lanes and were not able to avoid hitting the barrier wall in the 11:30am collision.

The Schmidts were both wearing helmets, and were taken to Stormont-Vail for medical treatment. No reports were released late Friday on their conditions.
