WASHBURN RURAL HIGH -- With prom season here, Washburn Rural is trying to drive home an important anti-drinking and safe driving message, by example.
Students Against Destructive Decisions staged a mock crash in front of Washburn Rural High Monday, giving onlooking students a very graphic glimpse at a prom night gone wrong.
The students who organized the mock crash say they want to put their classmates on notice.
Senior Dylan Tyler told us, "just because things like this are real, and not fake, and i hope people realize that this is a possibility and that they need to think about their actions."
WRHS Sophomore Courtney Sweet took on the most important acting role of her life, as a victim sprawled on the crashed car. She said it was worth it, and "I just hope that people don't drink and drive before prom and that if they do drink just to stay at home and don't get on the road and put other peoples lives in danger."
And the graphic lesson couldn't be taught too soon. Washburn Rural High holds its prom this Saturday night, April 21st.
