Events scheduled for May 26

Everest

The 2nd Battalion, 130th Field Artillery, Hiawatha, will be providing a Color Guard for the Everest Kansas Military Honor Ceremony. The event starts at 1 p.m.

Topeka

Sons of Union Veterans of the Civil War
Ceremony at 8 a.m. Saturday (promptly at 8)
Topeka Cemetery (just north of I-70 and California)

Events scheduled for May 28

Topeka

Col. John Muther, Deputy State Surgeon and commander, Kansas Army National Guard Medical Detachment, Topeka, will be the guest speaker at a Memorial Day ceremony being held at Penwell-Gabel Cemetery, 6th and Gage, Topeka. The ceremony begins at 11 a.m. Senator Pat Roberts and the Legion Riders will also be participating in the ceremony.

Maj. Jeff Howell, Headquarters and Headquarters Detachment, 635th Regional Support Group, Hutchinson, will be the guest speaker at a Memorial Day ceremony at VFW Post 1650, 3110 SW Huntoon, Topeka. The ceremony begins at 11 a.m.

Assaria

Maj. Charles Lunkwitz, logistics officer for the 287th Sustainment Brigade, Wichita, will be the guest speaker at a Memorial Day ceremony in Assaria. The ceremony begins at 9:30 a.m. and will be held at the Assaria Cemetery.

Chanute

Capt. Jonathan Johnson, Headquarters, 891st Engineer Company, Iola; and Staff Sgt. Melvin Eubanks, Field Support Company, 891st Engineer Battalion, Iola, will be the guest speaker at a Memorial Day ceremony in Chanute, Kan. The ceremony will begin at 10 a.m. in the Chanute Cemetery at 14th and Kady St.

Clifton

Capt. Travis Zeigler, commander of the 250th Forward Support Company (-), Ottawa, will be the guest speaker at a Memorial Day ceremony in Clifton, Kan. The ceremony, sponsored by the Clifton American Legion Post, will begin at 10 a.m. in Berner Memorial Park.

Coffeyville

1st Sgt. Jared Worley, 242nd Engineer Company, Coffeyville, will be the guest speaker at a Memorial Day ceremony in Coffeyville. The event will begin at 10 a.m. and will be held at the Fair View Cemetery, 2406 Woodlawn Avenue.

Cottonwood Falls

Lt. Col. Steve O’Neil will be the guest speaker at a Memorial Day ceremony being held at the Chase County All Veterans Memorial, 424 N Walnut St., northeast corner of Swope Park. The ceremony begins at 10 a.m.

Fort Leavenworth

Maj. Gen. John Davoren, commander of the 35th Infantry Division, Fort Leavenworth, will be attending a Memorial Day ceremony at the Fort Leavenworth National Cemetery, 395 Biddle Blvd. The ceremony will begin at 11:40 a.m.

Fort Riley

Members of the Kansas National Guard Military Funeral Honor Guard will participate in a Memorial Day ceremony at the Kansas Veterans’ Cemetery at Ft. Riley beginning at 11 a.m.

Hiawatha

Capt. Philip Morris, training officer for the 2nd Battalion, 130th Field Artillery, will be the guest speaker at a Memorial Day ceremony in Hiawatha, Kan. The ceremony will begin at 10 a.m. at the Brown County Courthouse.

Highland

Maj. Chuck Leivan, administrative officer for the 2nd Battalion, 130th Field Artillery, Hiawatha, will be the guest speaker at a Memorial Day ceremony in Highland, Kan. The ceremony will begin at 9:30 a.m. at the Highland Cemetery.

Holton

Col. John Andrew, chief of staff for the 35th Infantry Division, Kansas National Guard, will participate in a Memorial Day ceremony being held in memory of Master Sgt. Bernard "Bernie" Lee Deghand. Deghand was a member of the Kansas National Guard and was killed in action in Afghanistan on Sept. 15, 2006. The ceremony will be held at the Holton Town Square and begins at 12 p.m. (noon).

Iuka

Soldiers from the 1161st Forward Support Company, Hutchinson will be providing a Color Guard for a Memorial Day ceremony being held at the Luka Cemetery. The ceremony starts at 11:15 a.m.

Lindsborg

Maj. Charles Lunkwitz, logistics officer for the 287th Sustainment Brigade, Wichita, will be the guest speaker at a Memorial Day ceremony in Lindsborg. The ceremony begins at 10:30 a.m. and will be held at the Elmwood Cemetery, Lindsborg.

Natrona

Soldiers from the 1161st Forward Support Company, Hutchinson will be providing a Color Guard for a Memorial Day ceremony being held at the Natrona Cemetery. The ceremony starts at 9:30 a.m.

Norton

Col. Mike Dittamo, Deputy United States Property and Fiscal Officer-Kansas, will be the guest speaker for a Memorial Day Ceremony sponsored by the Norton American Legion at the Norton Cemetery. The event starts at 10 a.m.

Pratt

Soldiers from the 1161st Forward Support Company, Hutchinson will be providing a Color Guard for a Memorial Day ceremony being held at the Pratt Cemetery. The ceremony starts at 10:30 a.m.

Lt. Col. Thomas Burke, commander of the 1st Battalion, 161st Field Artillery, Wichita, will be the guest speaker at a Memorial Day ceremony being held at the Pratt Municipal Airport B-29 All Vets Memorial, 40096 Runway Blvd. The ceremony starts at 2 p.m.

Preston

Soldiers from the 1161st Forward Support Company, Hutchinson will be providing a Color Guard for a Memorial Day ceremony being held at the Preston Cemetery. The ceremony starts at 9 a.m.

Salemborg

Maj. Charles Lunkwitz, logistics officer for the 287th Sustainment Brigade, Wichita, will be the guest speaker at a Memorial Day ceremony in Salemborg. The ceremony begins at 8:30 a.m. and will be held at the Salemborg Cemetery.

Winfield

Command Sgt. Maj. John Ryan, Kansas Army National Guard command sergeant major, will be the guest speaker for a Memorial Day Ceremony in Winfield, Kan. The ceremony will begin at 10 a.m. and will be held at the Kansas Veterans Cemetery, 1208 N College St.
