TOPEKA, Kan. (WIBW) - Topeka City Councilman Chad Manspeaker asked Shawnee County commissioners to appoint a new chairperson for the joint economic development organization.

Jedo oversees the use of revenue from a countywide sales tax that voters approved in 2004.

Without a chairperson, Manspeaker said they cannot call a meeting for the general board.

He says that's an issue while Go Topeka pursues a major rezoning project in South Topeka.

"Jedo is the...in my estimation would be the managing arm of Go Topeka," Manspeaker said. "And Go Topeka is the driving force behind the rezoning. We've never been told about the rezoning effort in an open meeting, in a public meeting. We'd like to have an open discussion and understand more about it."

Manspeaker said he went before the commissioners today because he wanted to ensure his request was "on the record".

He does not think that commissioners showed any "nefarious intent" by not yet appointing a 2012 chairperson.
