RILEY COUNTY, Kan. (WIBW) -- A Manhattan man accused of molesting a little girl has entered a plea of not guilty.
Rodney Richardson, 55, was in Riley County District Court Tuesday for his arraignment and pleaded not guilty to one court of Aggravated Indecent Liberties With a Child.
Richardson, of Manhattan, was captured in Oklahoma in December of 2011 and brought back to Riley County to face his charge in the sex abuse case.
According to Tulsa County's Inmate Information Center, Rodney Richardson, 55, was arrested on December 15th, 2011 by an officer with the Tulsa Police Department on a Riley County District Court warrant which was issued on October 7th, 2011.
Tulsa County's website indicates that before being transferred to back to Kansas, he was held without bond on the charge of "Lewd Fondling of a Minor." Riley County police officials say, once in Manhattan, Richardson was re-arrested by the Riley County Police Department.
Captain Kurt Moldrup, an administrator with the RCPD, says the charge stems from an incident that happened on August 6, 2011 in the north central portion of Manhattan between Richardson and an 11-year-old girl. According to Moldrup, Richardson and the victim know each other and there was one reported encounter between the two. He says police were contacted about the alleged crime on August 9, 2011.
Deputy Riley County Attorney Bethany Fields said she could not discuss the relationship between the suspect and victim. Richardson’s jury trial is set for May 10.
