MANHATTAN, Kan. (WIBW) - The Christmas spirit was alive and well Friday night in Kansas as Manhattan celebrated one of its longest standing holiday traditions.

The Little Apple lit up as the Mayor’s Christmas Spirit of the Holidays Lighted Parade made its way from Downtown Manhattan to Aggieville for the lighting of the Mayor’s Christmas Holiday Tree.

Dozens of floats and various other entries were on hand for this year’s parade, and despite the cold weather, hundreds of families lined the streets for candy and celebration.

"Because Christmas is more than just the weather," said Luke Zaharia. "It’s not about being cold, but it’s about our Lord being born and the whole community being together. The warmth is in friendship."

Following the conclusion of the parade was the tree lighting and awards ceremony in Triangle Park where four lucky parade floats received awards from Mayor John Matta.

The Spirit of the Holidays Parade is held each year in Manhattan on the Friday following Thanksgiving.
