MANHATTAN, Kan. (WIBW) -- Your children may have already started making a dent in their Halloween candy collections but a Manhattan dentist wants to take their loot off their hands and give them cash instead.
Dr. Roger Stevens with Dentistry By Design is hosting a Halloween candy buy-back, offering one dollar for every pound of sweet treats surrendered to his office.
Stevens hopes to keep kids from downing lots of extra candy which can damage their teeth.
A poster for the program states: “Trick-or-treating is fun but all that sugar in the bag can cause tooth decay as well as triggering weight gain, feeling of tiredness, robbing your body of vital nutrients and opening the door to other health problems like diabetes.”
“We fight every day during our day at work fighting decay and the primary cause of decay is sugar so if we can deplete the amount of sugar that children eat, we’re helping their dental health as well as other influences that sugar and excess sweets has on their bodies,” Stevens said.
Last year, his office bought back 50 pounds of candy and he’s hoping that increases this year.
Drop off days include November 1st and November 5-7 during business hours.
Dentistry By Design is located at 1110 Westport Drive in Manhattan. The phone number is 785-539-2314.
