Manhattan Celebrates New Year With Aggieville Tradition

MANHATTAN, Kan. (WIBW) - The countdown to 2014 got underway Tuesday night in Manhattan with the Little Apple New Year's Eve celebration.

The event has turned into one of Manhattan's most popular winter traditions. For the past 11 years the event has attracted larger crowds, beginning with 4,500 spectators in the first year to over 10,000 annually.

Things got underway at 10 p.m. with DJ Styx and the all ages block party followed by a life performance by the Jared Daniel Band. The night also included a laser light show and special visit from Miss Kansas 2013, Theresa Vail.

The event culminated at midnight with the lowering of a ball from atop Varney's bookstore.
