Update: Suspect Identified In Officer-Involved Shooting In Junction City

JUNCTION CITY, Kan. (WIBW) -- The Kansas Bureau of Investigations has been called in to investigate an officer-involved shooting in Junction City after officials say a man pulled a gun on deputies from the Geary County Sheriff's Department outside of a nightclub early Sunday.

The man at the center of the shooting as been identified as Stefon Butler, 25, from Junction City.

Geary County Undersheriff Tony Wolf released the following information on the shooting to WIBW Sunday:

"On Sunday May 13, 2012 at approximately 2:00 AM, Geary County Sheriff’s Department Deputies were assisting Junction City Police Department Officers at 713 S. Washington St. (Club Eve) with monitoring the parking lot at closing. During this time, a disturbance broke out and one subject involved fled behind the building where Deputies from the Sheriff’s Department were. This subject produced a firearm in an aggressive manner; the subject was shot one time, and collapsed. Junction City EMS responded and transported the subject to Geary Community Hospital where he was airlifted by Life Star to Stormont Vail in Topeka with very serious injuries. Kansas Bureau of Investigations was contacted to handle the investigation."

Butler is listed in stable condition at Stormont-Vail Hospital in Topeka.

Undersheriff Wolf said in an updated news release Monday: "Once the KBI finishes their investigation, the case will be presented to the Geary County Attorney for his review."

No other details are being released at this time. No other injuries were reported.

According to the Kansas Department of Corrections' website, Stefon Butler was convicted in Geary County in 2004 on one count of Possession With Intent to Sell Drugs, Depressants,Stimulants, Hallucinogenics, etc. The site indicates that he was discharged in 2008.
