TOPEKA, Kan. (WIBW) -- A Topeka man charged in the shooting death of a neighbor has been sentenced to 8 1/2 years for the crime.
Lavance Thompson, 31, pleaded guilty in August 2012 to Voluntary Manslaughter in the death of his neighbor, James Sanders, 36.
Sanders died after being shot on Christmas Day 2011 at a Topeka apartment off 22nd and Wanamaker Road. Thompson was captured December 27th in Independence, Missouri.
Prosecutors said the shooting came after Thompson and Sanders argued about noise. Sanders had called police to complain.
Thompson was sentenced Thursday morning to a term of 102 months, with credit for time served. His post-release supervision period is three years. Thompson was also ordered to pay $5,366.52 in restitution.
