TOPEKA, Kan. (WIBW) - A man who was set to serve life in prison will now serve only 8.5 years.
Miguel Garcia was initially convicted of first degree murder for the February 2009 shooting death of 24-year-old Andres Arteaga-Vega outside a bar.
Police said Garcia and two others lured Arteaga-Vega outside the business to rob him.
Officials say another suspect fired the fatal shots during the confrontation.
An appeals court granted Garcia a new trial, based on his argument his confession should not have been allowed. He then pleaded guilty last month to a reduced charge of involuntary manslaughter.
