Man Suffers Life Threatening Injuries In Recycling Facility Incident

TOPEKA, Kan. (WIBW-TV) -- One man was rushed to the hospital Saturday morning after being injured at a North Topeka Recycling Facility.

The accident happened at Bailey's Recycling, 4120 N.E. Seward around 9 a.m.

Authorities say the man is an employee at Bailey's and was sitting inside a truck that was about to be recycled.

Another employee inside a construction equipment vehicle with a grappling hook attached attempted to lift the truck off the ground, not knowing the man was inside.

Authorities say the grappling hook attached to the truck, but did not lift it into the air, because once the operator found out the man was inside, he let go of the truck.

The man inside the truck sustained injuries which were first reported as a code red and taken to a local hospital.

Shawnee County Dispatch also said the Shawnee County Sheriff's office had to be called to the scene to keep people at a distance.

This is a developing story. Updates will be posted as more information becomes available.
