Man Accused In Louisiana Officer Killings Wanted In Kansas

(WIBW) - A man allegedly involved in a Thursday shooting in Louisiana that killed two law enforcement officers was wanted in Marshall County, Kansas.

Kyle Joekel had a warrant for several felony charges stemming from an August 21, 2011 vehicle chase that started in Marysville. Police were on the lookout for him because the Nebraska man had reportedly made earlier comments that he was going to Kansas to kill law enforcement.

The chase ended when police say Joekel crashed his car into a home in Oketo. A manhunt followed, with police putting out public warnings, but Joekel was not found.

Now, though, he is in custody following a shoot-out ambush in Saint John Baptist Parish in Louisiana. Two deputies were killed and another two more were wounded. Joekel also reportedly was injured during the shootout.

He also faced drug and conspiracy charges in Nebraska and had failed to show up for a hearing in that state.
