TOPEKA, Kan. (WIBW) - Thursday is the Great American Smokeout, and the Shawnee County Health Agency wants to help you kick the habit.

You can get a free "quit kit" when you turn over your pack of cigarettes.

The kits contain information and resources to help you quit, including smoking substitutes to use during cravings.

Pick them up from 8:00 a.m. to 12:00 p.m. or 1:00 p.m. to 5:00 p.m. Thursday at any of the health agency's four sites:

- Main Clinic: 1615 SW 8th Ave.
- California Clinic: 2025 SE California
- Central Park Clinic: 1534 SW Clay
- Van Sickle - Thorn Building: 2115 SW 10th

You also can get help with the state's toll-free KanQuit hotline, 1-800-784-8669.

And, Saint Francis Health will be giving you a bit of incentive Thursday as well if you're thinking of kicking the habit.

They will be giving out free turkeys to smokers who hand over their cigarettes.

They'll be at Topeka's Hy-Vee, near 29th and Wanamaker , from 11:00 a.m. to 1:00 p.m.

43.8 million americans still smoke cigarettes, making it the largest preventable cause of disease and premature death in the nation.
