TOPEKA, Kan. (WIBW)__ St. John's African Methodist Episcopal Church (located at 701 SW Topeka Blvd.) held a special service to celebrate the 145th anniversary.

The church was built in 1868 and still stands strong. Trustee Esmond Alleyne said that its not just the brick and mortar that makes the church. Rather it is the congregation, families and the gospel of Jesus Christ that have made the church.

The Reverend V. Gordon Glenn III, lead the service as well as others. Reverend Donna F. Roberson, The Presiding Elder from the Midwest North District, spoke to the church. Also speaking was Council Woman Karen Hiller, who gave a resolution from the Mayor's office.
