KANSAS CITY, Mo. -- Community Blood Center (CBC) is asking all eligible blood donors to make a life-saving blood donation during this week and throughout the next few weeks.
CBC saw a significant decline in blood donations during the last two weeks of August and an even more drastic reduction in collections over the holiday weekend. This, coupled with the demand for blood, by area hospitals has left the supply at a critically low level.
“We started to see a slight decline in mid-August, but the lack of donations from the holiday weekend has put the blood supply in an extremely critical state,” said David Graham, Vice President, Donor and Hospital Services. “August is always a very tough month to collect blood, you have families taking final summer vacations and preparing for back-to-school events. Often times, blood donations get lost in the mix and people think that their one unit of blood won’t make a difference, but in fact it does make a difference.” Graham continued. “We are asking all eligible blood donors to visit any one of our Donation Centers or mobile blood drives and bring a friend or family member with them. Every single donation will help at least two hospital patients who rely on life-saving blood.”
Donors can find a conveniently located blood drive by visiting the organization’s web site www.savealifenow.org and clicking the “Schedule an appointment icon.” Donors can also visit one of CBC’s six Neighborhood Donation Centers.

"A safe and adequate blood supply is essential to the health of any community," stated David Graham. “Therefore, we are asking all eligible donors to help replenish the blood supply by taking just an hour from their day to make that life-saving donation.”
