TOPEKA, Kan. (WIBW) - Fire officials blame a lightning strike for a late-morning fire that heavily damaged a Topeka business.
It happened just after 11 am Friday at Ellison Automotive Repair, 2631 SW Buchanan. Crews saw smoke coming from the building when they arrived. The business was closed at the time, so crew forced their way inside.
They quickly put out the fire, but not before smoke and flames did their work. The damage adds up to an estimated $20,000.
Investigators say lightning hit the building on its west wall at ceiling level, sparking the fire.
