TOPEKA, Kan. (WIBW) - American Legion riders and bagpipes led the way for a ceremony at Topeka's Penwell-Gabel Cemetery featuring Sen. Pat Roberts.
He and Kansas National Guard Col. John Muther laid a wreath honoring those who served. Muther also spoke to the audience about the need to remember all those who served and paid the ultimate price.
Roberts said it falls "to every generation to preserve our freedoms." He also said the military continues to defend the nation and continues to have challenges, acknowledging funding battles in Washington.
Penwell-Gabel also had its "Wall of Honor" on display, with photos of those who served or are serving still.
