Leftwich Assigned New Attorney

TOPEKA, Kan. (WIBW) - The man charged with killing a recent Seaman High School graduate has a new attorney.

Kathleen Ambrosio will now defend 20 year old Dustin Leftwich.

Ron Evans, who is with the death penalty defense unit, was originally assigned to the case but requested to withdraw citing "professional reasons."

Leftwich faces charges including first degree murder and kidnapping for the May 25th death of 18-year old Brenna Morgart. Authorities say Morgart was hit by a car while walking in the 6800 block of NW Jennings Road. Her body was then moved to a field near the 6600 block of NW Huxman.

A preliminary hearing is scheduled to begin August 29th.
