Lawbreakers Owe $18.7 Million To Topeka

TOPEKA, Kan. (WIBW) -- Topeka City officials are discussing improving an area of lost revenue.

City officials say law-breakers currently owe $18.7 million in fees and fines to the city, a total that dates back 21 years.

Officials say due to the down economy, they've seen an increase in non-payment over the last 12 months, so they're working to encourage payment by becoming more customer friendly. Lawbreakers can now set up payment plans and get payment extensions. They've also increased flexibility by extending office hours.

You can pay city fines online, just visit the City of Topeka website, at http://www.topeka.org/pay.shtml. There you can click on what you need to pay, and follow the steps.
